Nelson Mandela University has established a number of goals that will enhance the sustainability of the institution and help establish itself South Africa's "Green University". These goals are as follows:

  • Reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment;
  • Develop graduates and diplomats that are responsible citizens, aware of the sustainability issues we face;
  • Provide a stimulating learning environment in which students are encouraged to reach their full potential;
  • Develop an integrated long-term financial plan that is responsive to institutional strategic priorities and promotes sustainable growth;
  • Engage in mutually beneficial partnerships locally, nationally and globally to enhance social, economic, and ecological sustainability.

In order to achieve these goals, a number of projects are being undertaken at the university. You can read more about these projects here
